SPECIAL REMINDER TO STUDENTS OF ALL CLASSES!!!

It is the responsibility of the student to inform their teacher of any known future absences. It is the
responsibility of the student to complete all work missed due to absence from class. A mark of zero is
assigned to work if it is not handed in before the work is marked and returned to the class. It is the
responsibility of the student to inform their teacher before test day if they know they will miss a test for
a legitimate reason. At the teacher’s discretion the missed test mark will be replaced by the student’s
exam mark or an alternate evaluation will be administered. All tests or other evaluations missed for
illegitimate reasons will assigned a mark of zero.

SNC 2P1 - Science (Applied), Grade 10

This course enables students to develop a deeper understanding of concepts in biology,
chemistry, earth and space science, and physics, and to apply their knowledge of science
in real-world situations. Students are given opportunities to develop further practical
skills in scientific investigation. Students will plan and conduct investigations into
everyday problems and issues related to human cells and body systems; chemical
reactions; factors affecting climate change; and the interaction of light and matter.
Term work is worth 70% of your mark.  The "Final Evaluation" is worth 30% of your mark.  The Final Evaluation will consist of a written and practical exam.

You will be required to bring the following items to class every day:
-Your three ring science binder; Your daily planner/agenda; A pen; Your textbook; Lined paper; A ruler; -A pencil ;
And above all ..... A positive attitude!!!!

You will on occasion need:
-A calculator; Pencil Crayons/markers

TCX 231 - Refrigeration, Grade 10
This class examines the principles of natural and artificial refrigeration, measurement of temperature, pressure  & heat flow and heat. You will design and construct refrigeration systems using the tools used in the refrigeration and air conditioning trade. You will also have to solve technological problems relating to the fabrication, servicing and the ultimate operation of the systems. The study of service valves, testing manifold pressure readings and safety is also examined. You will acquire transferable skills relating to similar technologies as well.  So if building fridges is not what you want to do, you can still used those skills in a similar field.

Prerequisite: None
Teacher: Mr. C. Morningstar

TCH 3E2 - Heating and Cooling, Grade 11
This class is a double credit course (approximately 220 hours), involving a detail study of refrigeration systems components, controls and circuits. Particular emphasis will be placed on the theoretical and practical study of metering devices, evaporators, condensers, compressors and motor controls. You will build and service up to ten refrigeration units in the process while acquiring transferable skills relating to similar technologies. The additional instruction time in this class also assists you in gaining conference and skill in the theory and practical aspect of refrigeration and air conditioning.  There will be some focus on heating equipment and fuel types.  Some discussion and assignments on efficient use of heating equipment will take place.  This course will greatly improve your opportunity to find apprenticeships.

Teacher: Mr. C. Morningstar

TCH 4E2 - Heating and Cooling, Grade 12
This class is a double credit course (approximately 220 hours), involving a detailed study of domestic and commercial refrigeration systems, parts, controls and circuits.  Particular emphasis will be placed on the construction and servicing of commercial refrigeration systems. The safe handling of ozone depleting and non-ozone depleting refrigerants and the move toward recycling, reclaiming and reusing refrigerants will be practiced.  This class will also expect that you build and service up to ten different systems using the trade-specific tools required for refrigeration the trade.  Additional instruction time in this course also assists you in gaining confidence and skill in the theory and practical aspect of commercial and domestic refrigeration and air conditioning and greatly improves your chance in finding apprenticeships. There will be an increase in focus on heating equipment and fuel types.  Discussions and assignments on efficient use of heating equipment will take place.

Teacher: Mr. C. Morningstar

TIJ 101 Exploring Technologies, Grade 9

This course enables students to further explore and develop technological knowledge and skills introduced in the elementary science and technology program.  Students will be given the opportunity to design and create products and/or provide services related to the various technological areas or industries, working with a variety of tools, equipment, and software commonly used in industry.  Students will develop an awareness of environmental issues and will begin to explore secondary and postsecondary education and training pathways leading to careers in technology-related fields.

In particular, students will be exposed to basic skills that will help them in future courses with specific skills including: communication technology, construction, electricity, manufacturing, refrigeration, technological design and transportation.

Prerequisite: None
Teacher: Mr. C. Morningstar

Some Things To Consider

A reminder to all participants of Technology Courses:
1)  You will likely be involved in activities that will get your clothes dirty so dress appropriately!
2)  You will need to wear appropriate footwear (Sandals will not cut it!)
3)  The in-class use of personal electronic devices such as: cell phones, ipods, DS games, PSP games etc. is not allowed.
4)  You will likely be involved in a week-long practical exam that will take place at the END OF THE SEMESTER.  This means that you should not plan a holiday/vacation or time away from my class during this time.  Missing an exam will result in ZERO for participation and ZERO for marks as you will not be able to do the hands-on portion of the final exam.  Since this is worth 30% of your TOTAL MARK you may want to take this into consideration before signing up for this course - or that trip!!!
